Thoughts on India's World Cup win

Oh We have won the world cup and that is an event that doesn't come so often in one's life. It is a subject deserved to be pondered upon.

First of all, What a match the final was! I was feeling gloomy after India were asked to chase 274 in the final, a pressure match.

But man! Dhoni! What a player he is.. Simply great, he stepped up on the day when it mattered the most. We can learn lot of things from him. Dhoni has etched his name forever in the history of Indian Cricket and thus history of India. I think at times that he may soon become Greater than Sachin Tendulkar in objective analysis. I should not draw parallel with politics but India needs a leader like Dhoni.

We all may think that why this hype about Cricket? After all, cricket is a game, why it should be given lot of importance? But, see our people are crazy about cricket, and to perform to whole nation's expectations in tense situations required tremendous effort and skill and little bit of destiny too. I mean, it is easier to perform in league stages but, when it comes to knock-out stages, it can be sudden
death to good teams. It is like walking on a rope. I am particularly happy that we won 2 of the 3 knock-out games chasing good targets.

Oh what can be said about Yuvraj!? He has great talent and his bowling has been a revelation. The runs he made in the Australia game were crucial. I think the India-Australia match was the real tough one. Pakistan is more about hype nowadays. Australia is the new Pakistan for me. Nowadays, pakistan team is more friendlier and of course there is lack of killer instinct in them. But Australia, under Ponting was still a great team and he showed on that day in Ahmedabad. Until Raina hit that six, they were in the match.

I think Australia-England-SA trio did not prepare well for the spin. That led to their undoing. Australia-England-SA mindset is that Cricket played on fast pitches is the *real* cricket and cricket in sub-continent is a second-grade cricket. They will not admit that in the public.

Finally, I am really happy that we have won the world cup. I remember the moment when Dhoni hit that six to win it, slowly it dawned upon me that India has won the world cup and It was real. At that moment I thought that I am in middle of some history being made and my mind became still for a second or so.

The reality has given a way to years of yearning of millions of Indians.
